Services

Thirty one things a British Columbia notary is authorized to do.

Grouped the way people actually arrive at them. If what you need is on this page, book it. If you are not sure which one it is, describe the situation on the phone in ordinary words and we will name it for you.

Before you come in

What to bring, by appointment type.

Nearly every wasted trip to a notary happens for one reason: a missing piece of identification. Two are required for everything below, at least one a government issued photo card.

A purchase

Two pieces of identification, your lender’s name, your mortgage broker’s contact details, and the void cheque your lender asked for.

A sale

Two pieces of identification, your mortgage account number, and your strata management contact if the property is a strata.

A will

A list of what you own, the full names of the people you want to receive it, and the name of the person you want as executor.

A power of attorney

The full legal name and address of the person you are appointing, and their relationship to you.

A travel letter

The child’s birth certificate, identification for both parents, and the travel dates and destination.

A single notarization

The document, unsigned, and two pieces of identification. Do not sign before you arrive: the signature has to be made in front of the notary.

On fees

Quoted in writing, before the file is opened.

British Columbia sets no fee schedule for notaries, so the only real protection is a number in writing. Ours arrives before you commit, with disbursements listed separately from the fee, and revised in writing the same day if your file changes.

A range on the phone, immediately

You should never have to book an appointment just to find out roughly what something costs.

The written estimate once we see the documents

A strata purchase and a bare land purchase do not carry the same disbursements, so the real number waits for the paperwork.

Not sure which of these you need?

Describe the situation in ordinary words. We will tell you what it is called, roughly what it costs, and how long it takes.
