Materials · Engineered surface

Porcelain slabs and countertops.

Fired clay slabs that shrug off heat, stains and water. Thin, light and remarkably tough.

What porcelain is

Large-format porcelain slabs are made from fine clays and minerals, pressed and fired at very high temperature. The result is dense, hard and almost completely non-porous.

Where it works best

Kitchen countertops, backsplashes, shower walls, fireplace surrounds, wall cladding and outdoor kitchens. Because the slabs are large and thin, they can run full height up a wall with very few seams.

What to know before you choose it

On many porcelain slabs the pattern sits on the surface rather than running through the body, so the edge detail matters. Mitred edges keep the look continuous. Porcelain is also harder to cut than natural stone and less forgiving of a hard knock at the edge.

Care

Warm water and a mild detergent. It never needs sealing.

Questions about porcelain

Is porcelain as durable as quartz?

For heat and sun, more so: it does not scorch and it is suitable outdoors. It can chip at the edge if hit hard, so the edge profile matters.

Can porcelain go outside?

Yes. It handles UV, rain and freeze-thaw well, which makes it a good choice for outdoor kitchens.
